The Rail Clearways plan is a NSW Government initiative to improve capacity and reliability on the Sydney suburban rail network, presently recognised as one of the most complex in the world. The plan comprises 15 key projects that will separate the network's 14 metropolitan rail routes into five independent clearways by 2010. These projects will remove bottlenecks and junctions, reduce congestion and delays, and allow for simpler timetables for more reliable and frequent services.The projects are:- Bondi Junction Turnback- Macdonaldtown Turnback- Berowra Platform 3- Revesby Turnback- Hornsby Platform 5 plus Stabling- Homebush turnback- Lidcombe Turnback- Cronulla Line Amplification- Liverpool Turnback- Macdonaldtown Stabling- Kingsgrove to Revesby 4 tracks- Sydenham to Erskineville 6 Tracks- Quakers Hill to Schofields Duplication- Macarthur Platform 4- Carlingford Loop Heggies is engaged by the Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation as the Acoustic Technical Advisor on these projects. This role involves assessing operational and construction noise and vibration and design of mitigation measures, where required. Heggies also participates in community consultation and laison with other government authorities. Computer noise modelling has been used extensively to determine the impacts of the respective projects and evaluate the effectiveness of mitigation options.
