Ambient Air Quality Monitoring at South Coast New South Wales Quarry

As a result of additional concrete crushing operations at a Tomerong quarry, The NSW Environmental Protection Authority has required continual ambient air monitoring at the project site, including the collection and data analysis of PM10 and Total Dust Deposition constituents.

The scope of work for this project has included the installation and maintenance of three Dust Deposition Gauges staged along the perimeter of the active quarry boundary. Additionally, PM10 concentrations (defined as Particulate Matter with an aerodynamic diameter of less than 10 micrometers) are being monitored at the site boundary during crushing activities to investigate potential, adverse impacts on the surrounding residential receptors. Since the site is remotely located and lacks a main power supply, Heggies has deployed a DustTrak Aerosol Monitor to measure the PM10 concentrations at the site. The DustTrak is a portable, battery-operated laser photometer with real-time mass concentration readout and data logging capability. Additional project tasks have included data analysis and reporting to the NSW EPA to achieve regulatory compliance for our client, and therefore, allowing continual operation of the active quarry.
