The Regent Residence - Wind Tunnel Design

Heggies was engaged as the Wind Engineering Consultant for the proposed Regent Tower, Kuala Lumpur. The two-tower development site is opposite the Petronas Towers.
An Environmental Wind Tunnel test was performed using a scaled model of the development and surrounding KL precinct to assess the ground level wind environment at the site and identify any wind 'hot spots' with the potential to adversely impact upon pedestrians.

Heggies were also engaged to assess overall structural response of the towers and facade wind pressures via Wind Tunnel testing.

A lightweight scale model of the project was constructed and mounted on a very sensitive, high-frequency base balance. The balance is capable of measuring three orthogonally perpendicular moments and shear forces at the base of the model building. Predictions were made for the structural responses on each tower to provide peak base moments, torsions and peak upper-level accelerations within the top habitable spaces.

Facade wind pressures were measured in the Wind Tunnel using pressure tapped perspex models of the Towers connected to a pressure transducer array. Wind tunnel predictions of facade pressures were incorporated into the builder's facade specification.
