Background

Mr Heggie has specialised in acoustics and vibration since 1972. The consulting practice was established in 1978 and now has offices in Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane, Melbourne, Wollongong, Canberra and Singapore - and offers services in New Zealand, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Mr Heggie has experience in a broad spectrum of projects, with specific expertise in the measurement, assessment and control of the effects of noise and vibration emissions from mining, construction and excavation projects and in the investigation of the response of structures and building occupants to those emissions.

As Chairman and Managing Director of Heggies, Mr Heggie's focus over recent years has been on growing the company and on enhancing its range of specialist engineering and scientific services - and extending the company's geographical coverage. He has a particular interest in improving the management of organisational change and developing the quality of managerial leadership of staff members at all levels if the company.

Mr Heggie has extensive experience in the architectural acoustical design of commercial and residential developments, public spaces, cinemas, theatres, studios and performance spaces, hotels, resorts, marinas and large industrial and port developments.

He has also carried out noise and vibration impact assessments for major industrial and transportation projects (road, railway and aircraft), designed highly resilient trackbed vibration isolation systems and specified measures to control regenerated structureborne train noise in buildings.

Mr Heggie has prepared and presented expert evidence at numerous Commissions of Inquiry, Public Meetings, and Hearings in the Land and Environment Court, Panel Hearings, the District and Licensing Courts and the Workers' Compensation Court. He also actively participates in the Community Consultation phases of large infrastructure projects.
